Shom Academy

To provide training for hydrographers, cartographers and oceanographers, Shom has an academy located in Brest. It helps to spread general, scientific and technical knowledge among specialists working in these fields. It provides initial training and specialisation courses for Shom’s civilian and military staff, as well as for engineering students at ENSTA Bretagne.

To fulfill its mission of serving sea users, Shom oversees the entire value chain, from data acquisition and processing through to the production of charts and nautical publications, and the distribution of these products.

Mastery of the production chain includes the skills and training of the various operators involved in this chain. Shom’s strength lies in having its own training facilities – for both initial and continuing training – within its areas of expertise.

The Shom Academy organises continuing professional development courses in:

• Hydrography
• marine cartography
• oceanography

These courses are aimed at:

• Shom staff;
• professionals from the Armed Forces, public bodies, foreign hydrographic services or the private sector.
